Summersville Lake is a true jewel of West Virginia. "Skin Diver Magazine" called it "The Little Bahamas of the East!" because of the clarity of the water. It is the cleanest, clearest freshwater lake east of the Mississippi River and is a paradise for scuba divers. Sarge's offers scuba & snorkeling charters to the best sites on the lake. Contact Sarge's Dive Shop to learn more about our charters and Summersville Lake.
EXCEPTIONAL DIVING CONDITIONS
Summersville Lake is an oligotrophic lake with steep, rocky cliffs that descend about 100 feet below the surface. The lake is more than 300 feet deep at the base of Summersville Dam. Scuba divers will see huge cliffs, boulders, overhangs, and dramatic rock walls. There are also swim-troughs teeming with aquatic life, including bass, walleye, and catfish.
In the summer, lake visibility averages 20-40 feet, depending on rainfall and temperature. Water temperatures from June thru September range from 78-85 degrees. Long Point Cliff is the #1 dive location for most diving. However, there are many other locations to dive including "Bubble's Cave", "The Overlook", "Copperhead Cove", and "The Wall."
